The fall sport season has ended and congratulations to all the athletes who contributed to their team excellence this fall season! Now it is time to introduce our winter sports which feature boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, wrestling, swimming, indoor track and cheerleading.
Boys’ basketball is going to be a competitive season this year. Karon Evans goals for this season is “winning regionals and making it far in the playoffs”. Shamari Whitmore an 11th grader looks up to the 12th grader Karon Evans as a mentor during this season. Shamari is excited to play with Karon and grow together as a team. Basketball is more than the game and it impacts people’s lives.
Girls’ basketball is going to be an exciting season because last year there were a lot of veteran basketball players leaving so this year it’ll be new faces. Delaney Klauss is most excited about building team chemistry with the younger girls playing varsity this year. “We win as a team, we lose as a team, we are successful as a team, we are unsuccessful as a team” said by Delaney Klauss. She hopes that despite the challenges that the team will face the team will excel despite it. One thing you should know about this season of girls’ basketball is that they are all determined to win no matter what!
Wrestling is a competitive sport that involves a lot of physical and mental training. Zaden Tablan says his biggest goal is to make it to states this year, “I want to be a part of history for Tech.” The way that he is going to make it states is by doing the physical and mental training involved in wrestling to make it there.
For the past two seasons/year’s boys swimming team has won the country championship and they are determined to win once again. Rory Jenkins, the captain of the boy’s swimming team, is excited about swimming with his younger sister this season. Rory severely dislocated his ankle during the volleyball season so participating in the swimming season has given him motivation to work hard to recover. In girls’ swimming the captain Isabelle Stoughton is excited to finish out her senior season. She is most inspired to keep going by her family, friends and coaches.
Last year’s season of indoor track they were close to winning states, getting 2nd place overall. Coach Darrel Diamond and athletes Alexander Wockenfuss and Madisyn Bobb are interested in becoming state champions. The way they will reach this goal is by working hard and “training together[as a team]” according to Destiny Baker. What inspires these athletes to keep going are their parents and their teammates. “After running with friends for 4 years we inspire each other to end our high school careers on a high note” said Alexander Wockenfuss. “And the relationships they’ve built with my friends and the fact I know I can always do better” added Winter Evans.
Winter cheerleading is a competitive sport that involves lots of training and discipline. Jadah Gomes and J’Nai Welson are excited to exemplify school spirits. They are also excited for Vrsity and JV to bond to better their skills. One of their goals is to improve their stunting skills and make it to regionals and possibly states. One thing they wanted people to know about cheerleading is that it is a sport despite what people say and it comes with injuries because of the intense training. They said that they love the support they get from Harford Tech and if they weren’t about to graduate, they would give them one more season.
