As the second quarter end and 3rd quarter begins, 11th grade nursing begin their journey over to Harford Academy. While the first group goes over to spend time with the students of Harford Academy, the other half have started skills training.
The students at Harford Academy are unable to be photographed, but from our nursing students’ stories they truly love the interaction they are receiving over there. Over at Harford Academy they help kids and adults with disabilities to advance in life skills that way they can achieve greater success in life. It is a great opportunity for the Nursing class to assist them. Nursing students split their time helping in a cafeteria setting, and helping in a classroom setting. They all love getting to know the kids and working with them to help improve the student’s life skills.
Back over at Harford Tech Nursing classroom, students are currently working on patient bed making, patient transferring and positioning. They have been working over in the nursing lab using the beds to make “open” and “closed” beds. Most of the girl’s love doing “mitered corners” to make the bed all neat nice. The nursing students take turns being patient for positioning. Learning when to turn the patient and place a pillow to keep our residents comfortable. Later into the quarter they will be learning how to assist patients in getting ready for the day. Dressing, changing, brushing teeth, and bathing. These skills will get them ready for next year’s adventures over to Lorien.
When the quarter ends, the groups will be switching places. So, the 11th grade nursing class is able to learn from both Mrs. Schueler at Harford Tech and the students at Harford Academy.
