On February 26, the Harford Tech boys and girls indoor track team took home the class 1A state title for the first time in school history, adding to an impressive recent streak of championships for Cobra athletics. Prior to the win, Tech track and field had swept the UCBAC conference (Upper Chesapeake Bay Ahletic Conference) in indoor track and field activities as a part of their 2024 campaign, becoming the first team in Harford County’s history to do so. They dominated at the regional meet leading up to the championship(s), winning in almost every event. In the championship at Prince George’s Sports and learning complex last Wednesday, they dominated many events. The girls finished with a score of 79 points, and the boys finished with 59 points. The individuals state champions shined bright, winning their events on Maryland’s biggest winter track stage, and worked hard to help bring the state title to Harford Tech, the individual champions and their respective events are:
– High Jump: Winter Evans
– 3200: Izzy DeVos
– 4×200: Winter Evans, Madisyn Bobb, Madisen Morgan, Destiny Baker
– 500 & 800: Alex Wockenfuss
– 4×800: Anthony Manzo, Mickey Beser, Elijah Binot, Alex Wockenfuss

Additionally, many participants in the throwing event(s) displayed solid performances as well. Josh Baer, a standout Cobra football player and senior who is a first-year track & field athlete, set a new school record in the Shot Put event at the regional meet with a 38’04”. Winter Track was not a varsity sport 3 years ago at Harford Tech, but now, the Harford Tech Winter Track & Field program officially has a state champions title. Coming after recent state victories from the Boys soccer team in 2023, and the cross-country team in 2024. Harford Tech athletics will seek to win more state titles and put their name(s) on the map for the foreseeable future.
