On February 3rd, 2024, the Harford Tech Cobras boys’ varsity basketball team defeated the North Harford Hawks boys’ varsity basketball team 54-52. After losing to the Hawks at home on January 9th, the Cobras matched up against the Hawks for the first time in over 3 weeks, and this time, came off the court with a victorious outing against them, as they improved to 8-5 on the season. This match featured enticing performances from players on both teams, including North Harford’s Jason Brady, who had 14 points and a new career high in rebounds. And Mason Harvey, with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Though impressive, these players’ star performances were not enough to move past the Cobras. On Tech’s side of the court, their team had averaged 64.0 points per game leading up to the matchup, and this win helped them advance with a notable road game win streak of 3 straight. But the bolstering of their away record was not the only notable takeaway from this matchup, rather, the Cobras’ 10-point comeback to steal the game was another event of note from Monday evening. Down 10 points in the 4th quarter, and odds stacked against them, the Cobras drove the ball down the court and were able to score enough points to ease the deficit. When asked about how the comeback was possible, Tech sophomore guard Mateo Hiett said:
“We started moving the ball, and playing better defense, we started playing our game.”
The Cobras recipe for success in this matchup was being able to hone their skills at the right time to score during dire moments like these. And as they go on to face the Bel Air Bobcats at home on Wednesday night, they will look to showcase these fundamentals and shoot for another statement victory.
